Posing and Directing Models

Saturday, May 12, 2012

10:00 am

Photographers and instructors Jim Sykes and Robert Rostick will unveil the mystique around posing and directing models. In this workshop we look at techniques in developing pose ideas and creating routines used to make successful creative images.

The pose is the fundamental foundation of every image we create with a model.

It is the photographers responsibility to take control of a shoot as well as create an image that presents our subject and concept to the viewer in a way that is pleasing and guides the eye. This workshop will teach you the techniques that will help you achieve effective direction and posing of the model.

The longer you can keep the viewer inside your image the more likely they are to make an emotional connection.
Learning how to balance the models body to not only be flattering to her but also to form lines that direct and guide the eye of the viewer is a crucial skill every photographer must master. Simply allowing the model to come on set and do her own thing will most often lead to less than desirable results. Guiding our models in the positioning and placement of every part of their body is what allows us to use the models lines and form to give the eye a direction to follow.

There will be a female and male model to work with.

You will need an SLR camera to part take in this course; arrangements can be made to rent cameras if you don’t own one, please ask when booking. If you have a Compact, Hybrid or Bridge camera you can still take part in this course, however your camera will not have all the functions available to SLR owners, we guarantee to show how to get fantastic pictures with all types of cameras.
